Do they work, or are they a con?

What's in 'em?

There is a tea called Mothers Milk tea which is supposed to be good, don't know if you can get it here.

Best way to boost milk supply is to nurse/pump more, get enough rest and a good diet. Not always easy to do those things of course.

Ingredients:fenugreek seed, blessed thistle, nettle leaf, fennel seed, non-GMO soy lecithin, coconut oil, vegetable cellulose.

Finding it hard to do the other things, and thought that anything else I can do would be good.

Sounds okay to me, fenugreek is supposed to work but a slight downside is you might smell a bit funny - body odour like maple syrup. Depends on the dose though. Can give babies an upset tum too so ease off if their poo starts to look foamy/greenish.

I took them and thought they were great, although they're quite expensive! They only take about 2 days to have a noticeable effect. I took the full dose of 4 tablets for 2 weeks (that's one jar, basically) and then cut down to 3 a day, 2 a day, and then stopped. I still have some left.

I suffer from depression and am quite anxious, so I think that was affecting my supply. I was topping up with formula, but have managed to cut it out completely now and DS has been back to exclusive BF for about 5-6 weeks.

MrsM's right though - your sweat does smell a bit odd when you're taking the full dose. Can also make you sweat more - that's how fenugreek works I think, milk ducts are essentially specialised sweat glands.

Mmmm, that's a lovely though Olissa!

Well done Olissa for getting off the top ups.

I used them too, they worked for me, but I used them for too long and got engorged

sweetjane · 10/05/2007 21:37

I used fenugreek tablets from Holland & Barrett & they definitely worked for me and are probably cheaper!

Kif · 12/05/2007 21:58

i've used that brand, but the tincture.

def noticeable effect - works within 3 hours or so. You have to out in the 'leg work' of keeping feeding v frequently to 'make it stick'. I've had basically no side effects - a little dodgy blood sugar anda bit of moodiness but that may be tiredness. On the downside, I've found it dofficukt to stop taking them - my milk seems to drop quickly without the booster.

I have taken the More milk special blend and at the moment i am taking the more milk plus ticture. There is a MASSIVE increase in virtually hours but can make me feel quite engorged. Rather than taking the full recommended dosage i now take it once a day and still have loads of milk.

Thanks for that everyone...not one person has said that they didn't work yet. Is there anyone who tried them and found they didn't work?
