ds is 6 months old and is teething currently (has yet cut a tooth) he has started occasionally clamping down whilst feeding and nipping me which is rather painful. today however he has just done it 4 times in quick succession.
I unlatched him each time and said stop quite firmly and have now put him down on the floor for a few mins but he is getting tired and is due a nap so will need to feed again in a few mins. any good suggestions for how to avoid this or is it inevitable? have I handled it ok or could I do things differently?

Sounds like you've handled it fine. I think the advice to try not to react is a bit much - when you've been bit in such a sensitive place it's natural to give a little yelp! But yes showing him that feeding stops if he bites will help. And saying 'no biting', even if you don't feel he understands yet, it helps him get the language for it long before he can verbalise. I remember feeling so vulnerable and actually googling 'has a baby ever bitten a nipple off?'!! Couldn't find any evidence of that thankfully. From memory though the biting phase didn't last too long and I've just finished feeding at 26months.
