5 week old formula fed, VERY smelly wind

My son is 5 weeks and I’m a bit worried about his feeding. He’s formula fed on Aptamil Comfort formula. He has a LOT of smelly wind and seems to be quite uncomfortable a lot of the time. He only poos once every 2/3 days and he is really tricky to wind during feeds which is leading to some quite bad vomits.

He’s not upset all the time, but he is a lot more fussy than my first baby. It just doesn’t feel quite right.

Any advice how I can stop the wind? Help him burp? Using infacol which helps a bit.

Has anyone talked to you about CMPA? From what you’ve said it might be worth reading up on it Smile

No, I’ve not heard about that - I’ll take a look.

Thanks very much! It’s so tricky - my first baby was like a Viking - big quick feeds, easy massive burps with no possetting at all and normal poo. No colic or anything. This is a bit of an adjustment...

Being fussy, smelly wind and squirming all sound as if they could be CMPA but obviously I’m not trained. Have a read of the link though, there’s a handy bit in there of how to discuss it with your Dr Smile

You should speak to the doctors about getting some cows milk free formula. My DS had awful wind whilst being BF & when I cut out dairy I noticed a difference straight away... later he had normal formula and was really ill. Just beware that the prescription milk nutamigen has a really strong smell/taste. Don't be shy to ask for a different one if your baby doesn't like it. Also ask for some intolerance tests sharpish
