To cut a very long story short, it has taken me until this weekend to work out that my poor longsuffering dd may be sensitive to gluten, and since cutting it out of my diet I have had the first 3 untinterrupted nights' sleep since February - joy! Anyway, I'm back to work on Friday and had been freezing breastmilk for months in preparation and training dd onto the bottle. However, this frozen EBM will still contain gluten byproducts and will send dd back to bloatedness and bowel spasms. PROBLEM: got given hypoallergenic formula by hv and dd has point-blank refused them (Nutramigen and Neocate)... to the point that she will now no longer accept EBM from the bottle. So, I am going back to work with my dd refusing to feed. She only took in 8oz today between 7:30am and 7pm breast feeds. Is there light at the end of this tunnel? Tried a cup today, but most of the milk ended up down her front and I can't express enough to compensate for that! DH and granny have tried feeds too with the same results so it's not just me she plays up for.

What are your hours and your childcare arrangements? Is there any possibility of postponing your return?

Will be leaving house at 7:30 and returning at 4:30 with possibility of granny delivering dd for lunchtime feed (although it is 17 miles). HV did say I could get a sick line for a week but wondered if anyone here had any gems of advice first?

I haven't got any experience of this, I was just going to suggest wither putting off goinf back for a week or two whilst you try and get her back on the bottle and build up new supplies or if poss get whoever was having your dd to bring her in. Usually perserverence is the key in these situations but I can't guarantee it!!! Hopefully someone will be along soon who can give you some proper advice!

can you express at work and just hope for the best? rather than using the old milk with gluten...

My DS refused the bottle at first but gradually accepted it. One tip I found was sitting him up and giving it him in a very different position from bf, so he didn't get upset by associating it with the breast. anyway wish you all the best, and let us know how you get on!

After going cold turkey with Neocate formula today, I've been offering her milk every 2 hours out of a different shaped teat. She's taken some without objecting (small victory!) but is only taking 1-3oz at a time. I'll try 3-4 hourly tomorrow, but at least now she's actually taking from the bottle and I've been able to express and build up a supply for the fridge. Phew. Once you think you've understood babies, they go and change their rule book again....
