Formula feeding help please!

DS2 is 9 months old. I'm back at work next week so he is in nursery/with grandparents 3 days a week.

He's been breastfed so far (as was bottle refuser DS1) but needs some formula now. He does eat 3 meals a day so no worriers there.

I've never formula fed, I don't sterilise anything past 6 months. Do I really have to boil a kettle and let it cool for each feed? Seems like a right faff and I'm trying to make it simple for my MIL. I'd rather not keep buying the bottles of premade as they are more expensive than the powder.

Thank you!

The formula needs made up with hot water to sterilise the powder. You could make up more than one bottle at a time using water over 70 degrees and then store in the fridge. They need using within 24 hours when made up and stored in the main part of the fridge

I did it the correct way for 6 months, then got lazy. I still sterilise the bottles then put in the powder needed. I then pour in about 3/4 oz of hot water from the kettle to kill the bacteria then top up with cold water. It's not the correct way but it works when you little one needs a bottle and won't wait.

Thanks.

Will see if nursery would rather I took in bottles I've made up at home.

I'll let MIL know I'm happy with the lazy way!

If you're going to do it that way then you should add the hot water first before adding powder and measure out the extra cold water you need as when powder is added to the correct amount of water the end result is more than the ounces you started with i.e. 4oz plus 4 scoops ends up more than 4oz when mixed
