Infant feeding

Moving 7mo to ff

In the process of switching 7mo main milk to formula - currently bf every 2 hours day time and 2.5 hours night time.

I know every baby is different but if your ff baby is around the same age, how often do they want a bottle? Baby isn’t much interested in solids.

The current advice is to switch one feed every two weeks. Yiu can of course do more but switching one feed will reduce your risk of mastitis and get baby used to the new quantities that they will need to drink. A BF baby takes on average on,y 1floz an hour so if she’s feeding every two hours she’s ptobsbly only currently drink around 2floz of BM per feed.

Once she’s fully on formula she will need a minimum of 20floz, so you can see that she will probably need a little time to adjust Smile

20floz per day. Sorry I wasn’t clear Smile

DD has just turned 8 months and has 3 meals a day plus a bottle upon waking at 7am (7oz), 3pm (4oz- this was 7oz but she’s now taking less as she’s eating more food at lunch) and before bed at 6.30pm (7oz). As she’s now having under 20oz a day we supplement with a baby vitamin liquid.

I'm impressed you've got them to take a bottle at all, let alone formula! Are they drinking much of it?

Bigzzzzzzz · 19/02/2018 07:29

Thanks all, I’ve been dropping them over the last month but they’ve taken a bottle of expressed milk now and again from newborn so been used to bottles 😊

Will take between 4-7oz, but when feeding from me it’s generally a 3min feed so not much!

Don’t be fooled by the 3 min feed, babies can be extremely efficient. My DD never fed for more than 5 mins once she got past the newborn stage, plus they don’t need anything like the volume they have to consume on formula Smile

I think at 7 months dc2 was having a breastfeed in the morning, maybe 5oz mid morning and mid afternoon, breastfeeding at bedtime and 7oz bottle at 10pm.
By 8-9 months it was 7oz bottle morning and bedtime, and 3-4oz in a cup mid morning and mid afternoon.

@Bigzzzzzzz So did mine, then decided to reject them!
