When I was in the UK I used aptamil for dd and then moved onto the forward at 12 months from memory....

bbensley · 29/07/2004 07:28

I'm using aptamil too for two reasons, one no more huge tins to dispose of, two I had vouchers for it. It also seems to be keeping my dd more regular than SMA gold

thanks, guys.

any more?

We used SMA and it seemed to suit DD. She started on the Gold but not long after went onto White as she was a hungry baby. Moved onto the follow on milk at about 6 or 7 months I think.

larlylou · 29/07/2004 08:51

I used Cow & Gate Organic and ds seemed quite happy with it. Started off with first milk then progressed to second then follow-on. Tried ds on SMA but didn't take to it at all so switched and voila!

gloworm · 29/07/2004 10:25

we use Nanny formula as goats milk is more similar to breast milk. also seems to minimise future risk of allergies, ezcema etc.

Chandra · 29/07/2004 10:29

DS had problems with every single formula in the market but Aptamil (we found APtamil before Nanny so we have not tried Nanny).

bundle · 29/07/2004 10:31

used aptamil a bit but mainly breastfed, then straight onto cow's milk

Sandi102 · 30/07/2004 22:18

used SMA gold first but ds was constipated..then tried aptamil and he's fine with that..

Linnet · 30/07/2004 23:04

When I switched dd1 from breast to botle I put her on SMA as that was what I remembered my mum using for my brother. DD1 never had any problems with it.

With dd2 when I switched her from Breast to bottle the HV recommended Aptamil. dd2 is quite happy on that.

A tip that the health visitor gave me was to buy the baby powder from them. There is a dr's surgery where I live that sells all baby powders at a reduced price to what you find in the shops. Ask your HV where you should go to get yours as it really does make a difference to the amount of money that you spend on it.

mum2twins · 30/07/2004 23:09

Hi Hazlinh
I tried practically all of them as my dd had reflux and kept throwing them all up. In the end the HV and me settled on Farleys first milk as she said it had been the only one to contain the essential fatty acids now proven to improve brain development and which is found in breast milk. It also didn't seem to curdle in her tummy like some of the others did.

Hi
When I started topping up with formula I used the rady made cartons of Amptamil which was great.
I've now moved to the dried stuff and it seems to be leaving a residue - maybe of powder round the inside of the teat. Am I not mixing it enough?
I put 7oz of water into a bottle and give it 40 secs in the microwave and then mix in the formula and leave it to cool and then pop it in the fridge for later.

nutcracker · 01/08/2004 15:49

Both Dd's had SMA Gold and White.
Ds was awful on Sma though so he also had Cow & Gate (same prob), then Farleys (supposed to be gentler on the stomach) worked for a while but then we moved onto Cow &Gate Omnio Comfort which suited him fine.

Jennisaurus · 01/08/2004 16:28

SMA white is what we have always used and she seems to be fine on it

I sometimes use SMA soy formula and thats fine as well.

TAZPENFOLD · 30/09/2007 18:25

Help, please
I have an 11 week old girl and initially on SMA Gold. She seemed grissly in betwen feeds and was increasingly hungry but feeding evry 3 hours also a bit constipated. I changed to Cow and Gate stage 1 and all of a sudden my baby does 11 hours through the night and feeds 7oz x 5 a day - perfect. Only prob is her nappies are horrendous and runny, through her clothes every day- this CANNOT be normal. So changed back to SMA gold and now wanting 7oz x 7 a day. up twice in the night again. What should i do? try aptimil, or perhaps SMA white would that be any good? I dont understnad how she goes thorugh the night and is really happy but does these awful poos, then SMA she hardly sleeps and up and down in the night. Please help anyone.

chipmonkey · 30/09/2007 19:16

Tazpenfold, I have always bf so don't know if I'm best qualified to answer but my SIL had the same issues with first stage formula and moved her baby to 2nd stage formula and that sorted him out. If I were you I'd be inclined to try the SMA White. Doesn't sound like the C and G suits his little tummy!
