Night weaning

When did you decide to night wean your breastfed baby? How did you do it?

Was it a decision or did baby just decide didn't want milk at night?

Dd1 was 9mo. I was exhausted and fed up still doing 2 night feeds. She was breastfed so I sent dp in when she woke instead so she didn't cry for milk. He gave her a drink if water and a hug. After 3 nights she stopped waking up.
Dd2 screamed blue murder when we tried the same. I've just weaned her at 14 months. She didn't stop night feeds until I'd stopped all other feeds. It seemed like once there was no expectation of milk then they stopped waking up.
