Powder formula question

My baby boy is now 2 weeks old. We spent the first week of his life in hospital, where they did not allow powder formula, so we fed him liquid ready made one. As unfortunately, although it is convenient and I would love to be able to afford with it, it's too expensive and we will be switching to powder.

We feed him every 3 hours or so, and most of the time, he sleeps and we wake him up for the feeds, which is fine. But sometimes, especially at night, he wakes us up to eat and he is LOUD, no way I could wait 30 minutes + to prepare his food with him waking up the whole street. We did get a kettle that can preheat water to 70 degrees, but then waiting for it to cool down will still take forever with a screaming toddler, any ways to make it faster?
I have looked into the machine that makes the feed in 2 minutes, but apparently they are not recommended as can be a bit unhygenic or something along these lines, my midwife was not a fan for some reason.

How do people cope with it?

I used to pre-make bottles in the fridge. Can't remember he exact guidelines but if you make them correctly then rapid cool them they keep in the fridge; i blitzed em in the microwave in bursts & gave em a good shake, eliminating hot spots.

I've bought a Tommee tippee prep machine this time after a bit of research & chatting to different people. From what i can gather the stories are more positive than negative for them & a lot of people told me they were a god send

DD was happy to drink milk cold (though switched to formula at about 4 months, not sure if that's so great with a younger baby). We made up bottles in advance, then put them in the fridge.

You are supposed to use water that has previously been boiled and is still above 70C to make up formula; that kills any bacteria living in the formula. You can mix the powder with a smaller amount of very hot water (70C+), then add (preboiled) cold water to get the right concentration - that way you'll have a bottle that's safe, and at about the right temperature.

I did the same as pp after dc was a couple of months old. Learnt my lesson after dc1 and using ready made at night for my 2wk old now. I agree ready made is a bit more expensive. I will wean dc2 onto powder formula gently this time as it made them mega constipated when going cold turkey from ready made to powder last time.

You could make a feed before bed and put it in the fridge/baby warmer, then after he wakes and feeds and goes back down make the next one. Or as above, make a batch of four chill them and put them in the fridge.

There's nothing wrong with the prep machine as long as you clean it and change the filter!

I'm using the prep machine. It's been an absolute lifesaver. I've followed the additional advice and clean the machine once a month (instead of just when the filter needs changing). Having done bottles via kettle/ flask method when away on overnight stays, I really recommend the prep machine

Prep machine is definitely a lifesaver for us, just make sure to clean it and get real filters

Perfect Prep is the best thing we bought, by far.

When I had to switch to FF I would keep a jug of cold boiled water in the fridge to cool the bottles down. I would make it up so it was cool. E.g. 5oz of hot water to sterilise the powder, 8 scoops of powder, give it a good shake then top up with 3oz if the cold previously boiled water.

My babies is 10months old now and it my 2nd. Both my girls I would do 6 bottles at a time ( there good for 24 hours) just fill with boiled water pop in fridge and put the formula in when I need it.
The heath visitor told me to make fresh but there's no way they would wait that long and in the middle of the night I was dead on my feet.

I only ever made them in advance and stored them in the fridge.
I made them, left them to cool naturally at room temperature. Then they were stored in the fridge.
To heat them, I simply warmed them in a jug of boiling water.
