Weaning 5.5 month old.... Not going well!

Hope someone can help me!

I was all for waiting till 6 months to wean, however she seems so ready for it! Reaches for our food and won’t stop staring etc. So decided to start! But it doesn’t seem to be going to plan.... Tried so many foods and she won’t eat any of them Confused pear, apple, carrot, parsnip, baby rice, banana, banana rice. Tried giving her “finger” foods too and it’s just not happening!

I know hv say babies have to try things like 10 times before they decide if they like it or not, but I have tried her many many times with each of these foods and she will NEVER have more than a spoonful of each, that’s if I’m lucky! She pulls a face at everything that goes in, every time!

Not sure where to go from here? Does anyone have any suggestions to what I could try next?

Thank you x

Hi, please don't worry! This is perfectly normal. I weaned ds at 5.5 months mainly because he was showing all of the signs of readiness and milk alone wasn't satisfying him. You should have seen the faces he would pull (you would think I was trying to poison him), he hated everything. Now at 10 months old he eats everything and I mean everything (including spinach, broccoli, cauliflower.) He actually eats better than I do and some adults I know!

The only foods DS mildly accepted at 6 months old were sweet potato and also butternut squash, have you tried either of these? It's just so new for babies when they've only ever tasted milk and it can take awhile. DS hated yoghurt, didn't like fruit and even apple sauce was out of the question; would not tolerate it in any flavour or form and now at 10months old he can't get enough and polishes off big homemade tub of it everyday and east 3 meals a day with lots of variety!
Keep at it and I think the ten times rule isn't that accurate as with some foods it was more like times 20 for DS! I wouldn't rule any food as your baby boy liking until he's much older. Don't give up as I promise you it has better! You'll also end up with a much less fussy baby foodwise in the future if you keep offering food and introducing new flavours as he gets older.

Oh also a couple of spoonfuls is all they eat at that age. Let your baby lead you and as she gets the hang of it she'll take more. I started with just one meal a day then a couple weeks later increased to 2 and a few weeks later to 3. Your baby will guide you when she's ready.
