Hey..!! So I have a 4 month old son who is currently on hungry baby sma formula, he’s a good weight and generally a good baby.
This last week or two he’s been wanting feed every two hours and taking a minimum of 7oz at a time. He’s went from sleeping all night to being up wanting fed ( around 3am ). Which is still good I know but I know eating that much and that often is a bit excessive for his age. I’m swithering wether to start weaning..?? Any advice would be amazing.

TIA

Tammy x

There's definitely a sleep regression/ growth spurt around that age. I'd imagine that's your cause!

My son was the exact same and I ended up weaning what other people would say is 'early'. He needed it and he's now 15m and thriving. He eats adult size meals three times a day plus snacks all day. There is no way he would have coped on milk until 6 months unless it was fed through a drip to him at 2 pints an hour. If you feel your LO is ready then go ahead with some veggies. Don't give fruit first or else you'll have a nightmare getting him to eat veg. Do the usual 'same food for three days' malarkey to check for allergies but once you get through that he will be 6 months anyway and then you can start mixing veg for him x

Thanks guys, my daughter was weaned around 4 months but that was 10 years ago when they didn’t make you feel crappy if you thought about doing it sooner than the 6 months that the HV suggests 🙈. He just never seem to be satisfied. What time of day would you suggest it best to starting giving him a some food, like breakfast, lunch or dinner..?? x

Milk has far more calories than first foods,so that makes no sense.

The NHS advice is not to wean until 6 months. Sleep progression/regressions are normal as are growth spurts at that age. Sleeping through or even waking once for milk at that age is amazingly good. Remember baby’s sleep continually gets better and worse.

Is your baby draining the full body? If they are then offer more milk. At one point my baby was drinking 11oz at a time. I would consider dropping the hungry baby milk as it takes longer to digest but does not contain more many calories so babies may feel full but have not have had enough milk.

Chaosofcalm · 28/12/2017 16:07

Early weaning foods are fruit and veg so again fill up baby’s tummy with low calorie food so they eat less milk durring the day and may wake more at night.

I think i’ll Persevere as I am just now and see how he goes. I think it’s just cause we had such an amazing routine and had feeding/sleeping down to perfection and it seems to have all went to pot these last couple weeks. He’s such a good baby so it’s a shock lol, and it’s been 10 years since our last baby so I’m constantly doubting everything I’m doing 😭🙈 x

4 months is growth spurt time, he needs the calories in milk to help him grow. Give it a couple of weeks and see if he settles.
