If you think they are taking ages to drain a bottle, size up a teat.

I did and then he splutters EVERYWHERE!

It's a while ago for me but I had one who would guzzle in about 5 mins and another one who take about half an hour of faffing and gentle sucking before it was done with.
If you think it's the right teat then you
Might just have a slow drinker

I struggled with my little on around the 12 week age he was taking an hour/falling asleep/getting bored, I moved him up and it was a disaster, most of it ended up running out his mouth, moved him back down, couldn't deal with the hour feeds. Moved him back up, after about a week of milk everywhere and very messy feeds little man finally got the hang of it and now we don't have an issue, bottle done in 15 minutes.
Sit him right up when he is feeding and give it a few days for him to get used to it.

My 8 week old drinks 5oz in about 20 minutes.

Mine was a slow drinker. She would take 45 mins to have ten mls in nicu. It never really got better. 45 minutes was a standard feed time regardless of teat or age, expressed milk or formula. She's three now and still eats so slowly I can feel myself ageing during the course of her dinner.

My DN took an hour. How much is your LO having and are you feeding on demand or following a schedule?

Tryingno1 · 27/12/2017 18:50

Thanks guys

Mine is 10 weeks and 12 pounds and having 4 ounces (120 mls) with a lot of pushing ! He will occasionally have 150ml. was doing demand but now doing it 3 hourly feeding but if he wants it before I don’t make him wait. He often does want it at 2.5 hours so I wish he would just have more to last longer.

He acts starving as if I’ve never fed him when he wakes from sleep for milk but often falls asleep at bottle / has 60mls and stops or cries or gets bored

It’s just hard work!

Taking an hr for 120 mls with burping

I find he gets mega burpy and sickly with size 2 but he def gets it into himself much quicker

Maybe I’ll try again?
