Help! Scarily windy 4 week old ...

My 4 week old dd is generally hard to settle and does not like to be left, but does not have textbook colic (inconsolable crying in the early evening), though she has been a gripey baby since birth.

However, for the last few nights, in the early hours of the morning and usually an hour and a half-ish after a feed (EBM), she has been enormously windy. She may not wake up, but evey few minutes she will arch her back, struggle, whimper (or even scream) and unleash a navvy-sized fart. This goes on for an hour or more. She seems to be in so much discomfort I usually bring her into bed with me and rub her tummy while she sleeps until the whole thing passes.

I can't tie this into any dietary link with what I've eaten (though Cadbury's MAY be a culprit - I've stopped eating choc now). We did recently start using colief because of her original gripeyness - coulf this be it?

Any ideas? Please please please ...

Not really any ideas I'm afraid. Ds was a bit like that as that stage and it was pretty usual for all the wnd to catch up with him around 3/4am and for me to spend a while rubbing his tummy like you do while he squirmed and farted.

Try taking a bit of time over nappy changes and cycling his legs, that is good for getting farts out!

If its any consolation ds is now a bit over 3 months and doesn't have any wind problems, he just farts contentedly.
