Breastfed 7 week old pooing all the time

Apologies for tmi topic. DS is 7 weeks old, ebf and has always been a frequent pooer but it doesn't seem to be settling down and some of his dirty nappies are getting truly massive. In the past 12 hours he has had 7 of them, all but one being large and filling most of the back half of the nappy. He is well otherwise. They are always bright yellow to mustard in colour and very loose. He is gaining weight fine, following 50th centile for the past 4 weeks. Is this normal?

You could check with hv/gp but generally this sort of thing in an other wise healthy thriving baby is just considered a variation of normal. Some babies are like this from time to time 😀. Opposite end of the spectrum where they have a massive poo-nami every 12 days!

Sounds perfectly normal to me. At about this age my DS was pooing upto 10 times a day. He’s still a greedy sod now as a teen Smile

Thanks for the replies. Smile He had his 6-8 week check with the GP today and she said it sounded normal too. I do feel a bit guilty about the mountains of disposable nappies we are getting through. Not quite guilty enough to switch to the washable ones, mind you...

It was a bit of a shock when DC2 arrived and once went 12 days without pooing. Have you heard the term poonami? Grin

Ohyesiam · 12/12/2017 22:10

I remember thinking the poo was like curried yogurt.Grin
You could always get those semi eco friendly nappies that supermarkets do.

Sounds really normal and healthy to me.

I miss those kind of nappies. Much more preferable to the nappies you get during weaning Envy

Sounds normal and shows he is getting enough milk. Sounds like you are doing a good job!

Normal I'm afraid! Switching to washable is best done when the newborn stage is over Wink

DD was like this. I went to the pharmacist all upset when she got constipated and said "what can I do I'm so worried?". He asked how long and when I told him 24 hours he looked me like I was mad. She was a multiple times a day girl!

Even now she eats (and poos) constantly!
