Getting anxious about expressing milk for Christmas visits - how and how much

I need to express milk for visits to family over xmas. My ds is currently 7 weeks old so 11 weeks by xmas. Two questions....

How much do i need to express per feed?

Secondly I'm worried how best to stock up. Ds has just fed and fallen asleep in carrier (i cant put him down). Ive just managed to express with him in it but only managed 1oz.

How best do i ensure i have enough? I will need enough for xmas day, boxing day and another.

I'm already stressing Sad

Have you tried one of these?

I've found mine amazing, completely covers you, you can still see baby, baby can see you (because the top bit has a curved wired to keep it open) and it stops baby getting distracted too.

I know what you mean about feeding in front of family - ironically I don't give two hoots in public but uncles, grandparents, cousins... Blush

How old is your DB? If he is not yet a dad himself, see this as you doing a massive favour for his possible future mother of his own children. Your DB really does need to see breast feeding as natural. He really, really does.

I think it helps to disassociate with the idea that breasts are sexual. Since having DS and breastfeeding (well since getting pregnant actually) I haven’t thought of my body or breasts as particularly sexual, I feel as if their whole purpose has been to nurture my baby. I guess not everyone feels that way, but I think it is important to remember that the primary function of breasts IS to feed babies. They don’t actually exist for men’s visual and sexual pleasure!

Hi OP, I've so far tried a few tops and covers and I feel most comfortable with the seraphine laina top, because the top of my boob stays covered during the feed & it's easy to get to my breasts to latch etc

And I use either a soft nursing poncho on top - I was given the happy mamma one from amazon - or a giant muslin as demonstrated in this video

In fact the muslin technique is so far better than the poncho

Good luck!
