my 7 week old DS has gone from feeding every 3 hours to every 2 hours -is this a growth spurt or could he just be comfort feeding?

If I remember correctly my DS had a growth spurt at about that age, try and ride it out if you can and if it is a growth spurt it should settle back down in a few days. If it doesn't settle you could try offering him your little finger to suck (hold hand with palm facing up). My midwife suggested that to me as DS was (and still is!) quite a sucky baby and my boobs needed a break at the beginning!

thanks sparkymummy i had been told to give him a dummy as he is a sucky baby but it seemed to confuse him when feedng and we had enough problems with bfeeding as it was so am trying to get through without it

DS has a dummy now as even the finger thing got a bit much, but he didn't have it til later, I think they reckeon after 8 weeks they get used to latch so can handle dummy without getting nipple confusion (or whatever its called!!). Not sure whether we'd have done it in hindsight but it does make getting him to sleep at night and naptimes easier for us than my friends who didn't use one-I think its become a sleep que for him which is good at the mo but not looking forward to when we want to loose it!!
