So does a growth spurt in a newborn mean feed/sleep/feed/sleep or is ds going through some horrific change to his circadian rhythm?

ds2 is 17 days old, growing really well, fully breastfed - often

He has bene regualr since birth
feed, nappy change awake for 40 mins alert, then another feed sleep for 1-2.5 hrs
Always been a STAR at night settling from 8-9pm and feed/sleep no awakes during the night.

Today he has been dead grumpy when awake, all he wants to do is eat and sleep.
So he has gone to bed at 7pm, I feel cruel trying to force him to be awake

Could it be a growth spurt type thing?
please tell me I'll not be entertaining him at 2am when he suddenly livns up

sounds like a growth spurt. Very [envious] that he hasn't woken in the night for a feed though. Very unusal not to need feeding 3/4 hourly from day one!!

no no!!! he wakes for a feed(or 3) in the night, but that's all
usually just 10 mins often no poo so no nappy changes either
he is every 3-4 hrs at night
sorry, I wish sleeping through LOL
He's a little poppet though

no awakes I meant not opening his eyes and resettling staright away
sorry for confusion

yes it does. upside is that just after the feed feed feed stage (few days) he'll have a sleep sleep sleep few days. bask in it while you can

(dont actually know what a circadian rhythm is though... something to do with noisy insects??)

Piffle · 08/04/2007 19:29

circadian rhythm I thought means knowing difference between night and day - not a given with many newborns...
I could be wrong though I oftem am
Am rejoicing in having hands free at this time of night though
Normally am cluster feeding little porker

know the feeling! one handed typing on a crap keyboard whilst trying not to move a muscle lest baby complains and stirs so you have to walk around settling again, all of which means you CANT MN. aggghhhhh!

(was joking about the insects btw, but i think youre right about the real meaning of circadian...sounds plausible to me anyway)
