Is 6oz too much for 8 week old?

My LO suffers from reflux and is on gaviscon. He takes his feeds and finishes them quickly (I have to pace him). Lately, After feed he gets grizzly and as he is not refusing feed I don't think it's discomfort from reflux but that he wants more. He is 10lb,2 and a tall baby, 8 weeks old. He currently has 5oz every 3-4 hours. Is moving him to 6oz feeds too much too soon? Everywhere says he should be on 5oz for his weight and age, my HV discourages hungry baby formula, my Nan says if he's hungry just feed him, my instinct agrees. Anyone else have same?

My son is 8 weeks and is drinking 5oz in the day, 6 at night. If they are finishing the bottle then there's not much you can do apart from give them more.

It's better for them to be full and happy. It's not fair on them going without because of some 'guidelines'.

I hope the whole reflux thing gets better soon x

If baby's hungry, feed him Smile
I think you should always offer more than they'll drink to be honest! Every baby is different Smile

Yeah feed him if hes hungry. Babies feed based on volume and if he wants more then give it. So long as he is not bringing it up afterwards then you are not over feeding him.

My LO was taking the recommended volume for each feed but was taking 7 or 8 feeds a day and not 6 as per the guide on the aptamil bottle. He's a big baby and hungry but his weight has tracked a long the same percentile line since birth so it's all fine.

We found using the ready mixed aptamil made this so much easier as if he was still hungry at the end of his bottle we could just splash a bit more in until he was satisfied.

Guidelines are just guidelines .. every baby is different .. I'd say feed him.

If you're worried that 6 oz is too much could you try to offer more often? At this age my (bf)dc were fed every 2 hours during the day.

I've now done 2 feeds at 6oz, he's taken it well and not brought it back up, which is great. He seems really satisfied too. Just taken a fabulous 'I'm milk drunk' photo SmileSmile think the gaviscon maybe helping him enjoy his milk more too and why he is happy to have more.

6oz is not too much. When DD was 8 weeks, I was offering her 7oz bottles. She did not necessarily finish them but she usually drank between 6 and 7oz per proper feed.

DD never followed the guidelines. She gulped 30mls within seconds during the first feed of her life when she was just a few hours old (the "guidelines" say that newborns can only have 6-7oz per feed). Some babies are just hungrier than others.
