Advice about breast feeding!?

Hey ladies !! Just had my first baby on 7th Sept . I'm breast feeding and he has latched on really well but when it comes to early hours morning feed , he zonked he feeding every 3 hours. He won't always latch , and if he does it's not for long but then it takes him.an hour or more to settle. Do i leave him asleep and let him wake naturally or keep doing what I'm doing? Thanks xx

Have you tried skin to skin and squeezing his foot a little to wake him? Every three hours at this stage isn't too bad

It won't last, nothing does at this stage, but speak to your HV about it if you get worried

We had our littlies on the same day, congratulations OP . I am in no position to offer advice, but when you say it takes him an hour or more to settle- what happens if you try to latch him back on? I had something similar for two nights, then somehow decided to try feed at any sign of squawking from her, and it seems to work for us.

It's only really a concern if he loses too much body weight. My DD is 6 months now and at first was so sleepy she wouldn't latch to feed at all so we did lots of tickling, stripping her down, skin to skin etc to wake her. Every 3 hours is good for that age but don't be surprised if he starts cluster feeding - just get comfy on the sofa and go with it! They're learning themselves and also increasing your supply at this point. Like I say the only thing to keep an eye on is her weight (we started doing bottle formula top ups to get her weight up as she found it easier and less strenuous than BF while she was tiny and getting gr strength up and then we exclusively BF from about 2 weeks)

The midwife advised us as long as DS was gaining weight we could be led by him and allow him to tell us when he needed feeding. This was easier than setting an alarm every 3.5 hours!
