Infant gaviscon and constipation

My LO is on infant gaviscon for reflux. He can have up to 6 a day. So far I have given him 3 a day as I am worried about constipation. He is improving with the gaviscon but now has not done a dirty nappy in 24 hrs and it's unlike him.
Anyone have constipation probs with gaviscon and what did you do?
I have been massaging his tummy and started to give him cooled boiling water today.

We had the exact same problem. We had to use lactulose in the end to help with the constipation. I didn't like helping one problem (reflux) and then creating another but I couldn't see my little one struggle with the reflux any longer. It worked a treat, we gave it twice a day and now our daughter is weaning she still has the gaviscon but doesn't need the lactulose at all x

I decided not to use it for that reason. Try the usual steps for the constipation and if doesn't work speak to your HV or GP

Had exactly the same issue. Managed to get her onto ranitidine instead eventually, which was much better.

He eventually did a seriously full nappy bless him after lots of grunting and crying. Seems to be every other day, but takes lots of pushing and grunting. I have been doing foot massage - apparently helps digestion
tummy massage,
leg side to side - apparently supposed to be good for constipation
Toes to nose - helps to shift stubborn wind
1oz of cooled boiled water just once a day at moment.
and not sure if it is that that's working or just a coinicidence, but fingers crossed it stays ok.

Please please go to your gp and get lactulose. The longer they take gaviscon the worse the problem will get and they will start withholding their poo as they quickly learn it becomes too painful to pass.

We found the exact same problem. The first time my daughter was put on the gaviscon she was amazing for about 4 days. Then we ended up going to the out of hours doctors as she was screaming and crying and her tummy was really bloated and hard. They prescribed lactulose, which took a couple of days to work.

We then got advised to take her off it all as they thought it was an allergy, not reflux.

A few weeks later we ended up staying on children's ward as she was refusing to feed at all. Once again they put her on gaviscon and ranitidine, and lactulose from the start. She was like a new baby when we got home. X

This book is very informative on both reflux and gases problems. It's 80 pages long, written by a pediatrician. It makes it easier to understand in a clear manner and it's like few pounds on Amazon. I am happy I discovered it.

I had the exact same from 2 months old (earliest they would prescribe gaviscon). Feeding Warm water will help but tummy massage with oil is good too.

Today, we went to the hospital for our daughters constipation and reflux. They think she's intolerant to milk.

Do not stop going on at your doctor as 8 months of constipation had not been nice for any of us.

Good luck
