Sleep feeding advice

Hi. DS is now 6mo. He's been a pretty bad feeder since about 3mo and at that age stopped taking his bottle when awake and would only take it when he was tired and wanted to go to sleep. Having said that if I feed him to sleep he'll take a good amount (6-7oz 6 times a day). He's a good weight- 9kg and is going up centiles. It's been working ok for us except that the odd time if he feeds, then sleeps 2-2.5 hours then is awake 2 hours afterwards he'll be absolutely starving but will not take a bottle under any circumstances unless he's tired, in his sleeping bag and in a dark room. I'm now trying to start weaning him and am not having much joy- he just isn't interested at all.
I wonder if, by letting him feed to sleep I'm over feeding him which is why he doesn't want solids? Also kinda worried that if I don't get this sorted he's going to really struggle at nursery when I go back to work.
We decided to try and change things today and he took about 3.5oz first thing, followed by maybe 5-5.5oz at lunchtime and 2 oz there at 3. He had a few spoonfuls of porridge at breakfast and maybe half a jar of baby food at lunch. He's obviously usually had a lot more than that in terms of milk/ calories. He has gone off to sleep ok today sucking his dummy (doesn't usually take one) but only slept 30 mins.
Anyone have any experience with sleep feeders?
I guess I'm just worried he's not getting the calories in that he needs if I'm not letting him feed to sleep. Do I persist or carry on? Anyone's LO just stop doing this on their own?

I should say he was started on ranitidine for reflux at about 3 months by gp which helped a bit but things still aren't right and I've increased it to max dose for his weight for last 3 weeks and it really hasn't helped at all.

It sounds a lot like a cows milk allergy to be honest. Reflux and bottle refusal us how my DS got diagnosed.

Thanks feesh- even if he's taking it when he's going to sleep with no problems?

I'm just kinda hesitant to take him back to the GP without knowing what I'm asking because they'll just look at his weight and tell me he's fine.

Yeah the sleepiness feeding is because he's too relaxed to notice the pain and also the reflux (which might be the 'silent' type) is less of an issue when the muscles are floppy. Can you try a different doc? We got lucky with ours as he overlooked the weight gain (DS was still gaining well) and concentrated on the other symptoms we described.
