How long will I leak milk for?

I've been successfully feeding DS2 for 14 weeks now, but the one problem I'm having is leaky boobs. When baby sucks I can feel the let down reflex on the opposite breast and milk begins to leak out. Does anyone know how long this might last for and if theres any way of stopping it ?

I leaked with DS1 for about 4-5 months. DS2 stopped leaking more quickly.

What you can do is press on your boob with the heel of your hand and keep the pressure up while you get the initial letdown.

Ds is 19 weeks and I've stopped using breast pads in the last couple. Have had a couple of incidents if he's gone extra long between feeds but otherwise it seems to have settled down now.

I definitely still needed pads when he was 14 weeks though. I thought they'd never stop leaking - was costing a fortune in pads!

I've been wondering this too - ds2 is 13 weeks and there's no way I could go without pads.

Shona, I was laughing the other day over the notion that bfing is cheaper than ffing - I seem to spend as much on breast pads every week as I did on formula! I tried washable ones and got through all 6 in about 3 hours.

Hunker, where abouts on your boob do you press? does it matter? I can feel my let down starting so do I just do it until the tinglng feeling stops?

Thanks for the tip, I'll see if it helps.

I bought washable pads 14 weeks ago - never thought I'd still be using them !

Just press your nipple - quite firmly. Looks a bit odd if you're doing it in public

lily padz

Probably doesnt look any odder than wandering around with a great wet patch on your T shirt

Some mums spray from the other side, from what I know.

It does get lighter over time, anyway.
