Hi - has anyone been prescribed this ointment & used while breastfeeding? I'm a bit paranoid as I think a small amount comes out in breastmilk, but I'm in so much pain! Thanks :)

No, but if you're worried google the breastfeeding drugs network (I think!) and contact them and they can help you.

You can also do a search on the active ingredients here:

toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/newtoxnet/lactmed.htm

I've just done this (googled the ointment for the active ingredients). Looks fine to me - topical stuff should not reach the breastmilk in detectable quantities, anyway.

But look it up yourself as well as asking the Breastfeeding Network's drugsline.

What a fab website - thank you very much for drawing it to my attention! Unfortunately it had no search results for one of the active ingredients cinchocaine hydrochloride unless I did it wrong?! :)

It's there - check again. The given synonym is Dibucaine....just a different name for the same thing.

Thank you!!

I was prescribed it after dc's birth and I was exclusively breastfeeding so I don't think there is a risk to your baby. I always made it clear I was ebf in case there were any risks to be considered when prescribing medicines.
