Am I ok to feed like this?

Baby is a week old. I seem to have lots of milk but do have big breasts/areola & flat nipples. I have had no nipple pain & im finding the only way to get him to latch is to sandwich my nipple in his mouth - which obviously isn't the done thing. Nose to nipple & bringing him to the nipple doesn't work yet.
So my question is - am I ok to continue to breastfeed like this or do I need to work on teaching him nose to nipple?

Oh baby also has a tongue tie but seems to have a good suck!

If it works for you and baby then that's the main thing.
No pain plus good gain (weight for baby) sounds like a working combo indeed.

My advice is to get tongue tie sorted (dd1 needed general anaesthetic at age 2 to fix her 'mild' tongue tie which was giving her difficulties eating solid food). I had Dd2 done asap after birth and she slept through the snip!).

If you're like me you are overproducing milk to compensate for poor latch. Better to get it sorted early in my opinion. Particularly because with hindsight I blame dd1s colic on a poor latch and I wouldn't wish that on anyone... But I had thought all was well assessment was gaining weight fine and I had no problems I thought (bf both daughters for 1yr).

I don't really know the correct answer to this...but my baby is three months old and has had two tongue tie divisions, i'm pretty sure our technique is quite terrible but it works for us! You've just got to find your own way, I have watched a lot of YouTube videos this time around and the calm babies serenely opening their mouths nice and wide when presented with a nipple to the nose is an idea which is alien to me. My baby basically hurls himself at the breast snarling like a beast and proceeds to suck in whatever part of breast (nipple if i'm lucky) he can get latched on to. Like sucking in a piece of spaghetti. But he's 12 weeks and 16lb 12oz today so we must be doing something right!

All I'd say is if you are in pain, baby is losing weight or being very windy then I'd review technique.

That's how I did it as well and no problems here! It was a revelation holding my boob like a sandwich and aiming the nipple towards the roof of her mouth whilst she tilted her chin up.

However it did mean that I never mastered feeding with no hands - I always needed one to hold my boob in place!

If you've got the latch and he's feeding we'll keep on going! Well done!

He lost 3% of birth weight on day 5, I have another postnatal appointment on Sunday so I will see then if he has gained but he is feeding a lot & a lot of wet/dirty nappies so I'm hopeful!
I was wondering about getting his TT snipped but I'm worried about doing it when it's not required. Maybe that will help the latch though? I kinda think it's more my nipples then him though.
