Six week growth spurt or reflux?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can offer me any advice. My LO turned six weeks old yesterday and the past few days she has been really unsettled and fussy in between and after every feed.

I'm worried that she's suffering with reflux as during each feed she will pull off me (she's EBF) gasping as if she can't take any more milk. Although my milk supply is really overactive at the moment because I stupidly expressed loads last week as I'm not yet comfortable BF in public, so I don't know if she is overwhelmed by my forceful letdown?

The only thing that settles her is nursing more but I'm worried that this is making the problem worse? Once I've settled her she will go to sleep on her back for 4/5 hours (including through the night) so this makes me think it's not reflux? She's burped well in between and after feeds and having lots of wet and dirty nappies.

I don't know if it's just a growth spurt and my overactive milk supply is making things worse or if she is suffering with reflux? It breaks my heart to see my normally happy baby be so grizzly and fussy.

Any advice or similar experiences would be gratefully received! Xx

When she pulls off, are you swapping sides?

It depends on how long she's been nursing on that side for. If she's only just started then I'll try and keep her on that side to get the breast emptied a bit?

Sounds very much like DS who was 6wks yesterday too. And i also have forceful let down issues. He needs a lot of burping as he's shallow latching to deal with it and taking in air. And has been grouchy this last week.

But we count 3 hours as a good stretch of sleep, soooooo jealous!

arbrighton - this makes me feel better, thank you! I'm just going to follow her lead and keep feeding when she gets fussy and hope it's just a growth spurt and passes in a few days x
