Leaking everywhere

Hello!

My LO is currently 13days old and im leaking milk everywhere. When I feed the other breast just pours.

Will this always happen or is it something that just happens in the beginning.

At the moment I'm totally stripping off to feed but can't do that when I'm out and about.

Breast shells to collect milk? Or breast pads?

I had to use breast pads with my DS1 - with DS2 I hardly leaked!
This will get better once your supply is established IME.

I'm 11 weeks in and still leak. Stripping off is messy though, use breast pads or shells. Lansinoh breast pads are the best ones I've tried.

I had this with DD2 but it did calm down after a few weeks. occasionally get leaking now if she hasn't fed for a while.

I can't remember what they were called but someone on another thread said you can get things to collect the milk that leaks out of the opposite breast when feeding, unfortunately I didn't know this until I stopped and I had this problem all the way through.

When your other boob leaks it means your baby is latched and feeding well from the other boob so even though it's messy, it's a good sign!!

The haakaa pump collects and pumps milk from one boob whilst you're feeding from the other if you don't want to waste it?

My huge sympathies, I had a huge oversupply and leaked constantly, especially while feeding, for the first 6 weeks. It does get better I promise, your midwife is probably telling you your milk will regulate and I promise it does even though it feels like it's taking forever. I also tried pumping from the other breast at the same time which is great if you have 3 arms or can breastfeed sitting upright with the baby on either a pillow or supported with one arm. Otherwise though I second the suggestions of breast pads, mothercare and Boots ones didn't work for me at all personally the Lansinoh disposables are the best IMO or Sainsbury's own brand. I always have spare breast pads in my nappy bag. Or just shove a muslin down there if you're out and about in a pinch.

I was very leaky. For the first 6 weeks when I fed on one side the other side poured everywhere, had to sit with a muslin under the boob not being used to feed. It did settle but still had to wear breast pads for the 9 months I bf

I had this too. You need breast shells as mentioned above, I was amazed by how much milk the "resting" boob was spilling out. I froze the extra milk and used it for mixing into the first porridge type foods when weaning.

Thirding the Lansinoh breastpads - they are ace.

Pressing the heel of your hand against the leaky nipple helps reduce the flow too.

It will eventually settle down, though it can vary wildly from woman to woman, and baby to baby - I needed pads for 9months with DD1, but only 4 months with DD2. Other mums only need them for a couple of weeks.

I've only just stopped wearing breast pads and I still leak sometimes, DD is 9 months now.
