DD is 5 weeks old today and we're having terrible trouble feeding. I'm bottle feeding her a mixture of EBM and formula.

She got really good at feeding quickly in the night, I'd only be out of bed half an hour and she was going straight back to sleep and going up to 10 hours at night! About a week ago she started getting hungrier so I've upped the size of feeds, and she's having 6 a day instead of 5, but she's getting so much wind it's making her uncomfy and she won't settle, I've have been up for hours on end with her at night so she doesn't cry and wake up DH and DD1.

I thought the teats were too slow for her so now she has 2 holes and it seemed to help for a day but now she's just as bad again. She starts feeding ok, it's quiet and I can see bubbles on the surface of the milk, then she starts making gulpy noises and she swallows loads of wind, then pulls away and splutters. Can anyone tell me why???

I also tried a variflow teat which is much better wind-wise but she drinks so fast she finishes and looks confused like she hasn't sucked for long enough to be full, yet she's having 5ozs at a time.

Give her a slower teat, it sounds like it is coming out a bit fast for her. Try the variflow, and put more in it?

I've just tried her with a Dr Brown's bottle and it's even worse! It was coming through so slowly she was gulping air in round the sides and she was getting full of wind. I gave up after 3 ozs and did the rest from a normal bottle with a variflow teat. She's burped a few times and puked a bit but seems ok now.

I think I'll get the stage 2 teats and try again but they're supposed to be for 3 month olds, not 5 weeks!

Could it be caused by the Gaviscon in her feeds? Is it making it too hard to suck through 1 hole?
