left breast so sore

I always get pain in my left breast in the week before my period. I have been breastfeeding for 2.6 years now never thought i would but ds doesn't want to stop. He feeds three times a day for about ten minutes. my left breast has been getting increasingly tender all the time. I have had mild mastitis before and with hot baths i've managed to massage it away. this pain is behind my nipple. I have lumpy breasts and it is hard to feel a specific lump. Have asked the doc to refer me to breast clinic but just wondering if anybody had had anything similar. Rather worried at mo.

I have nothing to add, no advice/experience but do feel for you. Well done for getting referred and well done for managing to feed for so long! Keep us posted.

thanks. was wondering about thrush but doc didn't mention and no white spots in ds's mouth. Not sure what's going on.

if mears or tiktok were around i would be grateful to get their ideas...

ruty - not sure what this is, but it is highly unlikely to be anything sinister....as I am pretty sure the breast clinic will confirm.

It could be bruised tissie. it could be left over scar tissue from previous inflammation due to mastitis, it could be something to do with your clothing or the way your ds lies/sits when he feeds.....however the fact it is cyclical does make it sound hormonal, and lots of women get tender breasts on a cyclical basis.

Sorry can't help except to say good that you're getting a proper investigation.

thanks tiktok. It is just i've had the pain non stop for a couple of months now, whereas it is usually cyclical. I'll just have to bite my lip and wait for the clinic. it is really painful when ds latches on and then gets a bit better, but it is behind the nipple rather than the nipple itself. Oh well. Have to wait and see.
