My 1 month old son has reflux

Before a few days ago I never knew silent reflux existed in infants. He's always shown signs of it, I guess I just didn't know because I didn't know what to look for. Weirdly enough they've always been kind of mild, now at 6 weeks he's gotten worse. Crying during feeds. Not comfortable on his back for long. Not spitting up but when his stomach bubbles, moments later the milk comes up to the back of his throats and he screams for dear life! Arching his body, jabbing his legs and arms. I cry every day because it's so hard to watch him go through this. We are currently on Zantac but there's not much of a difference. I read about something called 'aptamil'i think. Im considering trying it but being in the Bahamas makes it so difficult to find certain things. If anyone has any tips that I can do to help him be more comfortable, please feel free to message me.

Aptamil formula does an anti reflux version.

Sometimes reflux is caused by food intolerances, e.g. cows' milk protein (present in breastmilk if you eat dairy) and of course present in formula. If the medication and anti-reflux formula don't help, try talking to your doctor about food intolerances.

There are prescription formulas available that have little or no full molecules of cows milk protein, although I have no idea if they are available in the Bahamas. If you're breastfeeding and suspect cows milk protein intolerance, cutting dairy from your own diet will mean baby is dairy-free too, although it can take a few weeks to see a change. Ideally you'd talk this all through with a dietitian before making any drastic changes while breastfeeding.

Babies with cows milk intolerance might also be intolerant of egg and soya, but could well grow out of all of it during childhood.

My son is on ranitidine (same thing) and it took a goid week to kick in, then seemed to wear off. He has to have the maximum dose, and that helped a lot. He's 5.5 months now and only having one dose a day instead of three.
