Silent reflux?

Hi there

I've posted this in the health section, but thought I may as well add it here too as it's linked to feeding...

I've previously posted on another board about squirming and grunting that my DS does, but over the past couple of weeks it's got worse and I'm becoming more convinced it's silent reflux. The health visitor said it's probably normal baby noises, and the GP said it's colic, but I'm not convinced. He's 5 weeks old now and breastfed. I just wondered if anyone has a baby with diagnosed silent reflux, and if these symptoms sound familiar:

Fussy feeder
Rapid weight gain
Frequent hiccups
Writhing and groaning when placed on back (much better held upright)
Excess wind from bottom end
Bubbly tummy

I think they're the main things. Also, could I ask whether any prescribed medication helped to fix the silent reflux? I was going to try asking if we could try infant gaviscon, but I've read it might not be very effective if the reflux is silent.

Thanks very much 😀

My DD has silent reflux and has similar symptoms (she is FF). Do you struggle to wind your DS? Do you ever hear him sound like he's being sick but then nothing comes out?

Hi KittyB52. Yes winding is normally tricky - is that a sign of silent reflux? I've tried a few different positions but even when DS isn't squirming about, I rarely get anything up. We sometimes get a burp coming out during the course of moving him about, but the majority of the wind seems to work its way to his bottom end!

I can't say he ever sounds like he's being sick though.
