One breast feels sore/bruised??

DS is four weeks old.t right boob feels tender and bruised underneath the nipple. Feeding isn't painful. I can't even have him lie on me on that side because it hurts too much. Is this a blocked duct? I've never had anything like this before and fed DS1 for 11 months!! I've got no redness or any other problems.
DS2 only usually has one breast per feed but I know the advice is to feed feed feed if you think you have a blocked duct or mastitis. But surely I can't just feed on one side, the other side will have a problem then!

When your in the shower/bath try gently squeezing the breast to release some pressure - it will hurt but a lot less than mastitis, also have you tried having your latch checked? Typically you should feed from one breast then offer the other and it shouldn't be painful.

When I had mastitis (DD 4 months old and bf and I bf my son for 9 months) I expressed the other breast while feeding from the problem breast so I didn't cause a problem with the other.

Had his latch checked in the early days but not since. It's definitely getting worse on top of sleep deprivation I really don't need this

Expressing off the other side at the same time is a good idea, I'll have to dig out my pump, I'm no good at hand expressing.

Sounds like a blocked duct to me too. Yes, feed, feed, feed and as AreWeThereYet says gently massage the bruised area in a hot bath or shower. You can also get a comb and sort of 'comb' the affected area in the bath or shower. Sounds a bit weird but helps.

Not sure how I will do all of these things and feed DS2 every 90 minutes, and sleep and see to DS1....magic wand anyone?!

Haha a magic wand would be lovely I've DS aged 4 and a 4 month old. If it carries on been painful, or goes red/hot to touch and you start to feel like you are coming down with something please see your GP though, as these are signs of mastitis and you can be given antibiotics to clear it along with feeding from it. bad parenting alert ha but sometimes to get a bath when I needed to relieve the pressure I waited until baby was asleep, put the bath on to run and played with DS while it was ready and then put on his favourite programme for 10/15 mins while I jumped in. X

Unfortunately I have a Velcro baby that wakes as soon as put down! But DH is home today so he took the baby and I got in the bath with DS1. Multi tasking! I didn't get anything out unfortunately. But I have been feeding off the sore side and I expressed the good side. DS2 had his first bottle ever, took it first time, bonus! The pain has eased a bit now so I'm hoping I caught it just in time. Still no redness or fever etc, just that tender, bruised feeling.

Latch baby on at different positions around the nipple so all the breast is getting drained. I found football hold when they were tiny and then pillows as they got bigger helped to get different position for latch.

Mastisis really sucks so be very alert to it getting worse. I was told to massage the duct with the end of an electric toothbrush while feeding.

Haha I'm familiar with the multi task bath haha! Not very relaxing is it?! That's brilliant news you was able to express and bonus about the bottle. It took me 3 months and a thousand different bottles to get mine to take it. Glad it's feeling a little better! Xx
