Baby Bottles

If a couple have decided they want to bottle feed their baby, which are the best baby bottles and teats to buy? My son and daughter want me to send these overseas to them.

Please don't advise to breastfeed as this is for my daughter in law and she does not want to ( her decision, which I respect)

I don't think there is a 'best' brand, really - it depends what works for the baby.

I use Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and I really like them. Friends of mine love Dr Brown's.

Thanks so much Fartniss :) My son and his wife live in China and sites like this are blocked. My son's MIL wants them to use glass bottles so they asked me to ask Mumsnet for recommendations!

We used MAM anti-colic bottles and I thought they were fab. They self sterilise in the microwave so there's no need for an additional steriliser.

Dr Browns are the only ones I know who do / did glass bottles. You can still buy them online but they're very pricey.

Same as fartniss Tommee tippee closer to nature. I really like them too. We tried dr Browns but ds hated them, they're a pain in the hole to clean too😂

I use Tommee Tippee ones too. The occasional time DS has a cold/ blocked nose or is out of sorts he takes the NUK or Dr Brown ones better, but we use TT 99% of the time. They sell sets which include steam steriliser, bottles, teats and all the bits and bobs she will need.

We use Mam and we love them, as above have said you can sterilise them in the microwave with just some water and they do glass ones also.

There isn't really a best bottle though!

I've seen Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature glass bottles! Very fancy. Apparently glass bottles are a bit more hygienic because they don't scratch on the inside when you wash them? Not sure how true that is but my plastic ones are looking a bit skanky after nine months of use!

We got one of the starter kits mentioned above with the steam sterilizer etc. It's really good but unfortunately only comes with smaller bottles which DS soon geew out of - if I was doing it again I just get the big bottles.

I heard they have issues with formula supplies in China? Have they looked into that? Apparently the local brands are made in less than hygienic conditions so parents all want to get US/UK brands but they're expensive and not always in stock; there are also limits on how many boxes you can buy at a time. I read an article about it somewhere but I'm a bit hazy on the details.of course if she's bf that's not a problem but if they're planning to FF it might be worth taking a few suitcases of formula with you.

We use tommee tippee Closer to nature and tommee tippee anti colic bottles. I don't feel the anti colic ones really worked and they are a pain to wash but the closer to nature ones are fantastic

I like the MAM ones too. DD doesn't like any, but of the ones we've tried, MAM were my favourite

Your DIL might need to try a few different brands to get the right one, as different babies will get on better with different bottles. We used Avent, but Dr Browns are often recommended for colicky babies. Maybe try something like Avent or Tommie Tippee to start with and see how they get on?

Boots now do MAM bottles in glass as well as plastic. Not tried them yet (still preg). Glass would be more expensive asnd fragile to post tho

We started with TT then switched to MAM anti colic. The self sterilising function was great for weekends away/holidays.

I used Dr Browns, tried other brands but didn't get on with them, at the start they are a bit of a faff as they have extra 'bits' that need to be assembled but it takes seconds.

Mumsnet isn't blocked in China, if it was not sure how I'd survive this pregnancy!

I have used Avent Natural, which are available in most big Chinese supermarkets, as are a number of different imported brands. Formula is big here so there's no shortage of variety to choose from.

Don't envy them with buying formula here though, it's incredibly expensive to buy imported. Good luck to them.

It's trial and error I'm afraid for babies! My DD wouldn't take to tommee tippee bottles at all; we had success eventually with Nuk - I think the latex rather than silicone tears are much more natural.
Mind you, that was for expressed milk as I breastfeed; she may have taken tommee tippee if they were from the start!
