Infant feeding

6 month old won't stop pinching

6 month old DS pinches constantly when nursing and has now started doing it for comfort at other times. I've tried all the tricks I can think of - telling him no and moving his hand, telling him it hurts me, distracting his hands with a comforter or muslin. Nothing works. He laughs if I say ouch or anything like that. I know he's not meaning to hurt but his grip is really strong and I have bruises all over my upper arms and my chest.

I can't bear it anymore and it's making me want to stop breastfeeding. Any ideas?

Take his hand away and hold it, every single time he does it. No other reaction, don't say no or stop it but firmly remove his hand.

I used to do that when ds grabbed my hair and glasses.

I've tried that too unfortunately. It's hard to remember everything I've tried! It's been going on a while. If I do that he wriggles his hand and pulls it away in order to find another spot to pinch. I feel like feeds are a constant battle.

Have you tried unlatching and putting him down for a short while? That's how I got both of mine to stop biting.

Put something in his hand? I use a facecloth.
