I was reading yesterday about the tragedy in Beslan a few years ago (you know where the Chechens held a school hostage and used children as human shields- loads of people died unfortunately). Someone has written a book about how things have moved on since the tragedy (not much it seems).
It was a moving story but I got to one bit that made me weep. A female survivor was talking about her experience. She was a teacher at the school and was describing how the children weren't allowed to drink anything and it was stifling hot - she allowed any child that wanted to drink from her breast (She must have been lactating of course) and even squeezed some of the milk onto a spoon for the thirsty children to pass around.
The whole story is horrific but I found that bit about the breastmilk really moving.
