BF 16wk old - latch, feed 5s then off & scream

Hi,

Can anyone advise...I have twins and DD BF so easily, every 4 hours & is happy. I am trying to get my DS BF again after I was advised to put him on the bottle to help with weight gain at first.

I am trying to get him feeding again...skin to skin, starting with bottle & moving to breast. Sometimes he will feed which makes me so happy but more often than not he will latch on, suckle for 5s then come off and cry. I am hand expressing into his mouth to encourage him to feed which works for the 5s suck.

Is this a let down issue? I've tried feeding him after DD or after expressing but neither seem to help much. Have tried tandem feeding but it's not easy.

Any advice gratefully received!

If you are trying to relactate, have you got the support of a local Bfing Counsellor?

Hi Everyone, yes I have seen the local lactation consultant a few weeks ago for support. At that time DS seemed fine with BF & low and behold when she was visiting he fed no bother. However since then he's been really fussy & impatient to feed so I put him on the bottle before he gets too distressed.

I don't have a problem wth supply as I'm feeding DD twin. My DD BF so much more easily so probably out of convenience for me I have been feeding her more. It's easy for me to feed her & prop DS up to bottle feed if I need to feed at the same time but I really want to get back to mix feeding both.

I am going to make the effort to persevere over the next week & go to the local support group with DS next Tuesday to see if I can get some help there. It's just difficult with twins but glad my supply is fine to feed so don't need to worry about that.

I'm not trained, so you might want to talk to a BFC on one of the Helplines but have you tried breast compressions with him?

I had actually been massaging my boob whilst he was trying to feed...I didn't realise this was compressions. I've googled & YouTubed so now know the specifics. I'll give that a go.

Thanks for your response Smile
