3 weeks old, no poo

Hello me again!
Dd is 3 weeks today and is primarily bf with 1 or 2 2oz bottles of formula a day on advice of hcp. She still hasn't gained her birth weight, although last week gained 125g, so weight gain heading in right direction.
No poo since Friday night and that one was the only one in 24 hours. Could it be a milk supply issue? When do I need to
contact hcp? She seems uncomfortable and def needs to go, pulls her legs up, red face, strains etc. Poor girl.
Any advice?

Is the formula a recent introduction? It can cause constipation. Was she pooing before?

It could be a supply or transfer issue too; so I think you need so me more expert help.

You could ring one of the breastfeeding helplines as a first step today

No the formula was introduced a week or so ago and she initially was pooing fine. I'm feeding at least 10 times a day and can hear her swallowing, no pain when feeding either so I'm pretty happy with the breastfeeding. I'll try calling though if she doesn't go today. Thanks for your advice.

The "normal" range of poo frequency for babies stretches from 5 poos per day to one poo per 5 days. No poo since Friday is still within the normal range. Don't fret.

peuk Yes, but I thought that was for slightly older babies, from 6-8 weeks or so? This is a 3 week old who also hadn't yet regained birth weight. The two combined should be looked at IMO but I am not an expert and perhaps you are Smile

That sounds good wine. Hopefully she's just constipated from the formula and you'll get a full nappy today! The helplines can give you some suggestions on encouraging weight gain as well as talking through the poo situation if you want.

No I'm not an expert - I'd reckon the chances are everything is fine but there is no harm consulting the professionals if you are worried.

She went! Panic over! It's the law of sod as soon as you ask someone (or lay them on a white rug or similar) they will go! Thanks both though
