BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT

Any hints and tips please! JUst found out we are pregnant with our second child, I am still breastfeeding my 18 months old son. I didn't intend to breastfeed this long. DO I need to stop breastfeeding, and any hints and tips to stop, my DS has a boob addiction!

I got pg with ds2 when ds1 was 11 months old. He was still taking 3 bfs a day IIRC. I read on MN that your breastmilk changes when you get pg and 2/3 of babies self-wean. This turned out to be the case with ds1, he reduced and reduced his demand until I eventually stopped offering at 15m - by that time he had been taking so little that I wasn't even slightly engorged on stopping.
In my case, it was entirely led by ds, however, there is absolutely no reason why you should have to stop. There are several MNers who have tandem fed - that is, fed both their toddler and their new baby. Those that have done it are all very positive about the experience.
If you're not interested in tandem feeding, then as far as stopping is concerned, you may find your ds self-weans like mine did. Do you get morning sickness? That may influence your decision on whether to leave it up to ds or take active steps to wean (my ds stopped when I was 20w, 3 weeks after I'd battled through bfing while morning sickness!).

No, no need to stop - your DS might self-wean or he might not - perfectly safe to keep bfeeding when pg though (whatever medical professionals might tell you - they're not amazingly clued up quite often!).

If you carry on b/f through pregnancy, how does that colostrum bit work? I was under the impression that was differnt to b/m and far higher quality. Are there any problems to newborn going without it?

I was wondering about the colostrum thing too?!?!?!
