Is my 5.5 week old eating too much?

Hi MNers, looking for some advice about my DD, 5.5 weeks old, formula fed almost exclusively now (only managing to express enough for a feed about once every 2-3 days sadly).

She is putting on weight at a rate of knots - I'm not sure how much as she hasn't been weighed in a few weeks now - but she is getting really rather chubby. I know this is a good thing :) but she is averaging about 4oz every 2-3 hours, about 32oz each day. Does this sound like a lot?

FTM in case you can't guess Grin

She's fine stop worrying. Enjoy your baby girl

My 6 week old is bf and is a chunk. I don't know what she is taking in terms of Oz but she feeds every 90.minutes or so.in the day. Sometimes more. She's gained nearly 2lb since she was born! My first born was a skinny little thing so it's a nice change to have a lovely chunky baby. Really do not worry, you can't overfeed a baby as long as you are taking your cue from bubs and stop feeding when she stops. With dd1 my mil uses to drive me mad when dd had clearly finished feeding and mil would wiggle the bottle in her mouth and try and force more down her. Enjoy your lovely baby x

We had a visitor from the HV today - my lo has gained 3.5lb since she was born! I can't actually believe it! Little chunk!

My DD is 5 weeks and eats 180ml/6.4oz every 4 hours on average.

Her last feed is about 10pm and it starts again about 5/6am.

So about 32oz a day according to my rubbish maths.

HTH.

Mine is 6 weeks old and has 5-6oz every 2-3 hours! The HV seems happy with his weight etc. X

Manhowdy, how'd you get your little one to go all night without a feed? Mine seems to want feeding more frequently throughout the night!

alltalknobaby · 07/03/2017 22:36

Sounds like lots of hungry healthy babies! I'd also like to know your secret manhowdy...

Sorry ladies, I have no idea! Blind luck.

(though she is in a co-sleeper cot (Snuzpod) and swaddled)

Bellabelloo · 08/03/2017 12:58

Mine is in a snuzpod, sleepyhead and swaddles and woke every 45 mins to an hour last night.

Grrrrrrr......!!
