Heating breast milk

I managed to express 3Oz today which I was happy about as had been rubbish at expressing with ds1.

Just heated it up to try ds2 with the bottle, for the first time. Possibly not hungry enough, as sucked at the bottle a bit, and swallowed but had about 1Oz.

Do I have to pour the breast milk away now or can it be kept?

Oh and how much would I expect him to take?

I think the advice is to dispose an hr after sucking began x

breastmilk can be kept in the fridge and can be frozen too, i'm not sure about heated breastmilk as I never heated mine if I expressed it.

I would throw it out after an hour or so. Sorry. I know how horrible it is to throw out expressed milk!!

You have to throw it, you can't reheat. Such a shame after all that effort to express it!

I think you can leave it out for a bit but not reheat it (so have it at room temperature). The Kellymom website has a section on this I believe.

Expressed milk can be kept at room temperature for 6 hours - we did this and never had any problems. That seems to be even if your DS has tried it - see kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/reusing-expressedmilk/ Because we normally had a bottle of breast milk at room temperature, we didn't heat it further. Gah. Thanks. I realised as soon as I heated it that I probably shouldn't have done it all. Lesson learnt!
