Special formula for colics?

DS is BF but I am struggling and thinking of stopping. He has tongue tie and I think takes air when feeding, he gets colicky at nights too.
So thinking of going to formula, but, I don't want ta cause him more colic. DD was FF and had horrid colic for hours and hours at a time.
Any ideas if special formula will help? I have the Dr Brown's bottles.

I started with Dr Brown bottles but in my experience they werent helping DS with his wind and colic so I switched him to MAM bottles which I now swear by.
I use Hipp Organic and since he's been on it he's had no colic, constipation or stomach issues

I use Aptamil Comfort milk. Our baby had constipation rather than colic but it helped a lot and seems much easier to digest than the regular stuff.

Have you tried Colief or dentinox for the colic? I've heard good things about both of them.

OP colic isn't what you think it is!

It's not related to feeding, either breastfeeding or formula.

Mam bottles, comfort milk and colief drops worked (sort of) for us.

Dr Browns bottles didn't. But that's possibly just to do with the teats being very soft.

Yoko, apart from being quite a distressing read - so my baby might have increased risk of SIDS too??

Colief is so difficult to administer to BF babies tho, I haven't managed to hand express :(

kione no, that's not the focus of the article (all parents should be aware of SIDS). I just thought it was interesting research into how feeding is probably not the cause of colic. If you google 'purple crying', this gives some insight, too. Apologies if the SIDS link was distressing, DS2 had colic and I just wanted to share with you the latest thoughts on what might be at the bottom of it

That theory hasn't even been tested yet so don't stress about the SIDS suggestion.

My first had colic too. He had it from 3 weeks to about 8 weeks (so that wouldn't even fit with the theory in that article). He had silent reflux too so don't know how much that contributed to the colic. I'm currently breastfeeding my second and have the same concerns about introducing formula as you do. Have you had his tongue tie snipped? We've just been through that and 3 weeks later breastfeeding is finally not painful and he's getting quicker at feeding.

Definitely colic and not cows milk protein intolerance? I had to go dairy free with my diet while breastfeeding.

We were referred for the specialist re TT but haven't heard yet.
I haven't tried going diary free but I could try. But I love (decaff) coffee :(

Oatly in coffee isn't too bad. Could be worth a try. Google the symptoms of cmpa to see if it fits your little one?

Could try but my only social life is going out for coffee, not that keen on tea but I'll do anything

I would go dairy free ... it will help. Also FF will make colic much worse. Once the TT is sorted the feeding will improve.
Colief is fine ... used to hand express a spoonful of milk and then add Colief then spoon it in. Continue to feed!!!

I always think with issues like this yoi're best to stick to bf. Formula is harder to digest, and if it does make things worse it can be hard/impossible to go back to bf.

I used to give mine infacol in weak fennel or rasberry tea.

I do think though that some babies are just like this, and they grow out of it, it's a phase rather than an actual problem, iyswim. We want something we can "fix"..

I just wanted to say that, although you should of course be very sure that you want to stop bf as it would be difficult or impossible to restart, I don't think there is any evidence that ff babies are more prone to colic. Both bf and ff babies get it and nobody is really sure why. My baby is EFF but no colic.

Also agree with really - DS was more reflux than colic. The breast milk was easier on his digestive system than any formula.
I swear by gripe water too

Infacol is easy to administer and seems to help my little ones colic.
As for going dairy free lots of coffee places now will do your coffee with soya instead of dairy so you wouldn't have to give up your social life just switch where you go if its any help? (sainsburys cafe does lovely soya coffees and are very bf friendly).
If you do decide to bottle feed I found mam anti colic bottles wonderfully helpful, also winding halfway through the bottles seemed to make a difference. (I had to stop bf for my own issues, sometimes it happens)
If little one is lactose intolerant ff won't help unless the doctor gives you a prescription for lactose free formula (usually a soy based one or nutramigen).
That link terrified me the first time I saw it but it is a theory proposing research not actual factual researched information. Also when you read further down they think they are caused by similar 'glitches' NOT by the same thing so colic wouldn't increase the SIDS risk even if they did the research and it turned out correct. Please try not to worry! (hard as a new mom I know believe me)

Just a little point of info: lactose intolerance is not the same as cows milk protein allergy/intolerance. You would know by now if he was lactose intolerant. It's extremely rare in babies and those with it don't thrive. Cmpa is far more common.
