Itchy nips!

I've got (and have had for some time) exceptionally itchy nipples. I've assumed it was just that they and the breast below where DD latches is a bit dry (skin looks a bit grazed under the areola) but could it be thrush? Occasionaly it's a bit sore but generally OK. It only occured to me because I read someone asking op on another thread if they had itchy nips with the pain they were questioning and suggesting it could be thrush. It's not a major prob but honestly the itchy is driving me potty and giving them a good scratch in public is earning me a reputation

Could be thrush. Does your baby have any white in his/her mouth-looks like uneaten milk?

I've got exactly the same thing, but no pain. Can you have thrush with no pain? hope someone knows the answer, it's driving me mad

i've had the same thing, i have been rubbing on some vasoline, as the nipples were getting quite dry. i was using lansinoh but my hv thought i was reacting to it and making it worse.

ld say ds2 and i were treated for thrush a few weeks ago which didnt help the itching at all, i have to go hide in the toilets at work and rub my cream on !!!

LOL, glad I'm not alone. Sometimes I forget I'm in public tho and I'm scratching away.....

I would get them checked for thrush.
Mine started itchy, then got sore and before you could blink I had a NIPPLE ABCESS do not hesitate, whip them out for your HV and get peace of mind!!!

Just to warn, not all HVs and GPs are good at spotting thrush. I had it, but it looked a bit different to the usual cases apparently. Luckily my HV had to the good sense to know her limitations, so she referred me to a LLL BF counsellor.

If i was you I would treat for thrush anyway. It cant hurt. Here in Australia we use canasten cream...don't know what you have there. But if it is it will improve quicker the sooner you start and if it isnt it wont do any damage.(be sure to treat yourself and baby for oral thrush otherwise reinfection occurs - big cycle!) i had recurring 'nipple thrush' when breastfeeding dd1 and if I had realised what it was sooner and treated it things may have gone better for us.
thrush is generally stinging nipples rather than itchy though in my experience.

I had this but it was not thrush. Was in fact some other fungal skin thing due to warm, wet conditions. Yum. The itching drove me nuts but gp prescribed an anti-fungal cream - fucibet(?)- which cleared it up straight away. Washable breast pads helped too, got more air to the boobs.
