Hi,
Just looking for some thoughts. My 3 week old is ff sma gold. She only poos every other day and is in pain with it. She has also started drinking less. I have read that sma is not as easily digested as other formula. Has anyone else heard this, and found other formula worked better? Do
you think it would cause more problems changing it?
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for reading

Hi my ds had the same problem on sma gold, we switched to aptamil, HV said this was the best formula for babys who tend towards constipation. She also gave me some tips on baby massage which really helped but cant describe it sorry! someone else might be able to though!

Hi, not an expert on formula as bf ds1 but am ff ds2. I have also heard that sma is hard to digest and rumours that it has an unpleasant taste?? When I moved ds1 onto formula I used Aptamil and also use Aptamil for ds2, both had dirty nappies once a day and seemed ok overall. Hope this helps and bumping this for you in the hope that someone else might be more informative!

Good luck.

I use Hipp Organic. Bf dd1 but always used organic food when weaning her so made sense to me to use organic formula with dd2. She poos about 3 times a day although she is pretty flatulent. Mind you so was dd1 and I put it down to the fact neither of them are big burpers and the air has to come out somehow!

I use Aptamil ready made cartons if I need to go out for a few hours and she is fine with those too. Think I read on another thread that hvs recommend Aptamil cos they advertise most in the trade mags.

Hi. I had the same problem with SMA Gold. I changed to Aptimil which sorted everything out poos 1-2 times a day

Thanks for all your replies. I will try aptamil then. Hangster funny you should mention sma having a funny taste, I have heard it tastes bitter, and I have always thought it smells disgusting. I used sma gold for dd1 and dd2 without any trouble, but all babies are diffrent and I hate seeing dd3 in so much pain.
I have my hv coming 2moz, she is a lovley down to earth lady, so I will ask her too, but I think after reding your replies a change is deffintley in order.
Thanks again

i have completely the opposite experience with aptamil - was recommented by hv as mix feeding but ds2 got very contispated so changed to cow and gate organic first milk - fantastic, goes regularly and very happy!

Aptamil seems very popular. I heard somewhere (oh I wish I could remember where) that Cow & Gate and Aptamil are exactly the same now since C&G bought them out and adopted the recipe. I use Cow & Gate Premium and have never had any problems. (Actually I started with C&G Organic but when I had to properly go over to mixed feeding I changed to Premium cos it's cheaper ).
