My son is 3 weeks on monday and already he is on 4-5oz of milk! The other day he had 4oz and he was still hungry so i had to make another 3oz then he went back to sleep. Just wondering whether i should now start giving him 5oz? Im worried about overfeeding him?

Also say if you feed them less, does that mean they wake up more often during the night? If you up their oz will they sleep longer? I just notice that last week he was going 3-4 hours of sleep now its only 1.5 hours to 2, maximum 3 if im lucky!

Thanks

Babies have a growth spurt at this point, I remember my son being the same. At that point he had an expressed bottle at night and a bottle of formula in the morning and sometimes we had to give him about 200 ml. That did settle down after a week or two. But that growth spurt was hell, as he just wanted feeding round the clock all day every day.

DC4 is 3 weeks on Tuesday and takes between 4-5 oz. He is feeding more frequently in the day and less frequently at night.

Last night for example

8pm 5 oz
10 pm 5 oz
230 am 4 oz
630 am 4 oz

Just follow your babies lead

Follow your babies lead, if they drain a bottle then start making every bottle with an extra ounce. My dd moved up from 4 to 5 oz early but is on 6oz still now at 4 months and doesn't take it all at every bottle. Just keep an eye on their weight at clinic, as long as they are following their line do what you think is best

I have no idea what oz are, I go by ml. I think you'll find that your son will gradually plateau when it comes to how much he's taking. With my son, we were having to up the ml every month. He was on 150ml every 2 - 3 hours from about 10 weeks. He's now 4 months old and has been on 200ml every 3 hours for over a month. He does not always drink it all as well.

i think, just keep doing what you're doing. If you are overfeeding him, you'll definitely know as he will throw up after a feed (not normal spitting up, i'm talking projectile like vomiting!). Also, up until 6 months, you should have him weighed and measured monthly. If there is a problem ie he seems to be putting on weight too fast, the health visitor will be able to pick up on it and advise accordingly.

Heads up, he will probably have another growth spurt at 3-4 months :)
