ds of 16 weeks only has about 4oz in a feed which has been ok up to now as he was feeding every 4 hours but now he wants feeding every 2 - 3 hrs. he is partly bottle and bf. how much should he be taking

Hi Clairejo - How much does your DS weigh? Are you giving formula top ups or alternating the different methods? I'd say go with the more frequent feeding and try to give the extras as breastfeeds (if you can and you want to) - at 16 weeks it's possibly a growth spurt.

he weighs 13.9. i am alternating feeds and am topping him up in betwen myself. should he be taking more than 4oz per feed.

When my DS was 16 weeks he was about a pound heavier than yours. He was generally taking around 6-7 oz in a feed but only had 4, or a maximum of 5, feeds a day. When you say he's taking 4 oz in a feed, do you mean formula? Maybe he's getting more from you than you realise?

I found an interesting article on the Kellymom site that said research suggests that babies' total milk intake remains quite static after the first couple of months - intake at each feed therefore depends on how many feeds over the 24 hour period.

I have to say I assumed that they'd take more as they grew bigger. I'll try to find you the link as they also had a calculator for formula and expressed milk amounts.
