Fenugreek

Just wondered if anyone had used fenugreek to increase breast milk supply. How many did you take per day?

I have ordered some 610mg capsules to see if the work and just wondered about others experiences.

I take 5 a day and think it really helps. I'm exclusively pumping so can actually see the difference in output.

I take 3 a day and also think it has helped. I too am pumping so can measurably see a difference. We went away for two nights and I forgot to take them with me and I did notice a drop in the amount I could pump. And the maple syrup thing is certainly true in our case - both me and DD smell of it!

Should add I am also drinking lots of nursing tea too.

I'm combi feeding so trying to do what I can to keep my supply up.

I took fenugreek daily for a few weeks. I took about 4 a day and it helped a lot with my supply along with the nursing tea I was drinking. I had to stop taking it as it was causing me to have horrible headaches!

I did take "more milk plus" capsules, where fenugreek is one of the ingredients. I've read on Dr. Newmann's website, that if fenugreek and blended thistle work, you see the effect within 48 hours, if not, then not. I actually saw the significant increase in milk supply, although, of course, I don't know whether it was due to this, or everything else I was doing - pumping, lots of feeding, using SNS... I also read that if your skin doesn't smell of curry, you are taking too little...

I took 12 a day, as recommended on the pumping forums, and it made little to no difference to me. You should smell of maple syrup - if you don't, you need to up the number you take.
