hi,

I am on two types of antibiotics (Cefalexin & Metronidazole) due to some membrane/placenta left behind. I did ask the doc at the hospital if could continue bf and as he said 'yes' but was rushing to get my notes done and move onto the next patient - typical NHS! I am now not sure what to do as I do want to continue bf but not if it will harm my 9 wk old DS. Can anyone help??

If he knew you were breastfeeding he should hopefully have prescribed ab's that are safe. I was on ab's for a while for mastitis - can't remember the name though. Just be aware though that ab's can make you/your baby more likely to get thrush. So if your nipples start feeling really sensitive or itchy or you start getting pain when you're breastfeeding (there's loads of info out there on the symptoms and treatments) then do consider thrush as a possibility and get treatment.

It's agreeing with your doctor!

Yes, they are fine. It might be a good idea to start eating live yogurt to help protect you against thrush while you're on the ABs, though (I don't know if there's been proper research, but anecdotal evidence suggests it can help).
