mastitis question

I've had mastitis and been taking antibiotics since last Thursday (only a day left to go on them), and all the swelling and pain has gone down.

But I am still getting the shooting pains in the affected breast and it feels really itchy too.

Does anyone know if this is normal or if this means the infection is still there?

It doesn't sound like Mastitis now... Have you been checked for Thrush? Was that your first course of antibiotics? As you may have got Thrush following the antibiotics (killing the "friendly Bacteria")

Are the shooting pains there throughout the feed and also afterwards?

Does the pain Radiate into your back/shoulder?

Is the pain like a burning pain?

I would definately make another appointment with your Dr to get checked.. or could could call a BFing Councellor for confirmation.

I've had mastitis 3 times and don't remember any shooting pains or itching. I'd go back to the gp if I were you. Are you emptying the affected breast by feeding/expressing as much as you can?

bumbleweed · 07/02/2007 19:56

discomfort / itching is there between feeds rather than during, its a mild burning I would say, no it doesnt go into my shoulder

yes seems to be getting emptied

dammnit I didnt think about thrush (which I've also had before), oh bollocks I needed fluconazole last time

actually now I think about it, I wonder if dd has thrush in her system from the antibiotics

bumbleweed · 07/02/2007 20:06

dd has white discharge in nappy region

last time she didnt have white in her mouth but she was having difficulty feeding and we used nystatin drops
