Sore breast help please

I've had a sore breast for a day or two now. My son will be 4 weeks on Thursday and is exclusively breastfed. It feels as if it's bruised and the nipple on the same side hurts when he starts to feed as well. I know he is latched on properly and in the right position so it's not that. Does anyone know what could be causing this pain?

Blocked milk duct? Can be agonising - and turn to mastitis if not cleared.
I use to massage the lump gently and carefully (very easy to cause more damage) under a hot shower.......
Some people swear by putting cabbage leaves in their bra(!)
Encourage your ds to feed on the sore side, since this may also help clear it.
I found that it was always the same side that blocked - and although ds latched on well, it WAS to do with positioning.
I'm no expert though - maybe Mears will come along!

Could be mastitis, blocked duct or a number of other things. I'd book an appointment with the doctor today. As mother of 4 week old you should be given priority. Continue feeding (or expressing) in the meantime or you could make any blockage worse.

If it is mastitis, don't worry, it's easily treatable

Donk, you got in before me. I would add that what caused it for me was bf in the open air on a cold day! Don't suppose you've been out for a frosty bf have you JodieG1?

Seen the dr and it's mastitis, she gave me some antibiotics so hopefully that will sort it out.

Good thing you have your mum to help. Hope you feel better soon.

Feed Feed Feed as much as you can from the sore side and keep the breast EMPTY as this will releive and reduce the pressure - which is agonising.

If your breast is extremely hot - i would recommend using a face cloth run under the cold tap on it as this will reduce any swelling, heat and pain. I had Mastitis so bad (4th time) the skin pealed from my breast!

Take paracetamol to reduce your temperature - if you have one, this will make you feel 100x better - no chills, aches or pains (other than the breast).

When feeding from the infected breast, try to position the babys chin towards the painful area and also feed baby whilst your on all fours to allow gravity to do its work also this will help you completely empty the ducts in this breast

Hope your feeling better soon. There is nothing worse than Mastitis in my opinion - i thought it was more painful than the childbirth
