Am I allowed to post a photo of my nipple?

I'm breastfeeding and I've got a rash. Google hasn't come up with much but I wondered if anyone would know what it is from looking. Am I allowed to post a photo?

Is it on the nipple? I don't mind having a look. I was pretty rashy when bf'ing.

It's more on the areola. The photo's not the best as it wouldn't focus very well. It's kind of bumpy and it's sore and a bit itchy.

Yes, I've had a look and all looks okay in her mouth. Does it look like the rash you get with thrush? Google only came up with the most extreme (pretty scary stuff!)

I would hazard thrush. Need canes tan or nystatin and also treat baby's mouth.
Alternatively, detergent sensitivity, new bra or breast pad ditto.

Check bubbas mouth for thrush. Express a little after feed and wipe around the nipple. If baby does have thrush the see Dr but if not carry on using you're own milk and a good nipple cream.

How old is your baby and is the rash only on one side? Under 6 weeks old and only one side mean thrush is v unlikely. Could be eczema?

Have you tried drying your nipples in between each feed? Sorry if this seems really patronising and obvious, but I'm asking because I had something similar, and it was because at his feeding peak DS fed for about 40 minutes at a time with half an hour break between each feed, which meant that my nipples were more or less permanently wet. I called it trench-nipple. Try cotton wool to dry them and Lasinoh cream to form a waterproof barrier, it was the only thing that worked for me.

She's 5 weeks and it's only on one side. I've been leaking a lot more in the night, especially from that side, and have woken up with my bra and breast pad completely soaked through so my nipple has been wet, yes, so maybe it's that. She does feed pretty much constantly as well.

I'll start using the lanisoh again and see if that helps. Thanks all.

Do you wear a bra overnight? I wonder if maybe the wet fabric next to your skin is making it worse? I used to sleep topless to try to let my skin dry in the air (it was awful because I leaked bucket loads of milk and had to wash the bed sheets most days, which was something I could have really done without) but exposure to the air was the only way to let my skin dry out.

Maybe go topless and sleep on a puppy pad or those huggies bed pads with a soft towel on top.

just to add - it does look like a moisture rash. Use lansinoh so that excess milk runs off your breast rather than sitting in your skin.

That's an idea. I'll give it a try. I imagine it might be like sleeping in a river! It will be more practical for night feeds laying down though. I'll try sleeping on a towel tonight and get some puppy pads or similar tomorrow.

What breast pads are you using also?

The only ones I could ever use by night were lansinoh. They were expensive but kept the moisture off. I used tesco by day.

I've been using some Morrison's ones. Maybe I should try some different ones.

Could be thrush. I had it but LO didn't have any symptoms. I used Daktarin oral gel on my nipples - safe for baby too.

With regards to breast pads, the best ones I found were Boots own, the big pack of 80. Also tried their washable ones and while nice (almost 'posh'!) for later times when I didn't leak so much, I found the disposable much more convenient and effective.

I've got some Sainsbury's ones to try next so we'll see what they're like.

Treat yourself honestly. The extra money you spend is what you save in laundry on the bed clothes. You can get away with supermarket ones by day.

I'm pretty sure in the early days of Breast feeding I had bumpy nipples like that. I say pretty sure because in my sleep deprivation 3 months on I can barely remember my name! I didn't treat it and It did go away, it was bumpy a bit like yours. I also second the lansinoh Breast pads they're the only ones I use

I found home bargains did the best breast pads. They were much cheaper than most too!

Tbh they just look like Montgomeries Tubercles to me, and the itchiness might be the moist, warm environment.

As above, make sure they're air-dried etc. I found Johnson's breast pads the only ones that were any good, but that was a gazillion years ago.

Oo op that looks uncomfortable. I was going to say thrush. It looks like milk on the baby's tongue.
