So a FF baby should have 18-20oz of milk daily for the first year....

...has anyone got a baby which actually drinks close to that volume?

I realise that dairy foods count towards intake - but I just wonder how many babies actually drink close to that required. At the moment DD£ is only having 10-12oz some days.

Its a vv good day if we hit 18 oz - I used to worry about this loads but have now given up. I offer our DS (almost 9mths) a bottle three times a day and he has cheese/yoghurt most days (yoghurt gets given a lot as my pudding ideas are limited). He seems fine and is gaining weight so I've stopped worrying which is good as I used to get really uptight each time I bottle fed him and he'd take an ounce or two and then reject the bottle. I guess he takes what he needs. My DS is realtively small (25th centile) so I do wonder if the 18-20 oz is an average - ie if your baby is naturally smaller it will be less if bigger perhaps a bit more?? - my friend has a large baby a few weeks younger and he eats loads and still guzzles masses of milk but then he is proportionally bigger and I assume has a bigger calorie demand (well thats my theory!)

DD3 is small too - I am not actually worried about it (although it is not just the calories is it - its the calcium manily I think). I just wonderd whether I was alone.

Ha ha. Dd refuses to drink milk, despite my best efforts. Ds was the same, and have given up. Both are growing like weeds...

Today dd has shoved out bottle with her little tongue breakfast, dinner and tea. So far today has had...oooooh let's see......1 1/2 to 2oz. Will prob have all of 4oz tonight at bedtime.

Grand total max 6 oz. Have tried......

I make her rice pudding and custard with her yukky formula, but still doubt she is taking in a pint a day

Now I've been confused about this one. Is that true then that dairy foods, and presumably any cows milk used in cooking or mixed with food, count towards the daily intake? My DS is just over 6 months and he's actually been really good with his milk. He's on three meals a day and still taking around 28oz of milk a day too (and he's not a huge baby, his weight is below average). But yesterday he only had around 17oz and I was bothered by this as I had been told he should have around 21oz. Sounds like I might be worrying too much?

Yes they do count, I try and put it in EVERYTHING!

DD - some days she only took 12 oz too...and she is petite...HV was confident that as long as she took the right amount for her and ate a varied diet, including lots of cheese, yoghurt, etc...then she was fine..!! she is 18 months now and still petite, but actually drinking more milk now !

my dd2 is nearly 14 months and ive been struggling to get milk in her since she was 9mo.by 11mo she would have,at most,12 oz a day.now i'm lucky if she'll drink 4oz in a day.
dd2 is petite compared to my other 3,though,who are all still very tall for their ages.i had to limit how much milk ds1+dd1 drank as they could easily get through 6 pints a day between them when they were toddlers.
luckily dd2 loves cheese and yoghurts as well so i make sure she has plenty of those.
